Saint Mary's College invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Media Arts in the Department of Art and Art History, beginning in August 2006. Founded in 1863, Saint Mary's is a residential campus nestled 20 miles east of San Francisco in the picturesque Moraga Valley. As a comprehensive and independent institution, Saint Mary's offers undergraduate and graduate programs integrating liberal and professional education. Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate media theory and practice courses. Provide leadership in curriculum development for a media arts concentration at Saint Mary's College of California. Faculty contractual responsibilities allow a teaching loaod of up to six (6) courses in the academic year, and one (1) course during January. All College faculty also participate in the Collegiate Seminar Great Books and January Term programs. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the mission of the College, which is informed, animated and expressed through its Catholic, Lasallian and Liberal Arts traditions. Qualifications: Candidates should hold a Ph.D., M.F.A., or other terminal degree in Media Arts or related disciplines, with a record of teaching excellence, research and publication in the field. Candidates should be committed to undergraduate, liberal arts education, and are expected to participate in departmental and college service activities. Candidates should demonstrate computational proficiency as well as a commitment to research and professional activity at the national and international level and possess knowledge of contemporary art, theory and criticism as it relates to media arts practice Salary and Benefits: Salary is competitive with other non-profit higher education institutions and commensurate with qualifications, experience, budget and internal equity considerations. Placement will be determined by prior experience.
