<nettime-ann> Raqs Media Collective: Talk at Buchsenhausen |
. RAQS MEDIA COLLECTIVE Fact, Facticity, and the Imagination talk and discussion Tue 01.07.2008, 19.00 Kunstlerhaus Buchsenhausen Labor Weiherburggasse 13 6020 Innsbruck, Austria **** The origins of Raqs Media Collective’s practice lies in documentary filmmaking, and though they have traversed a long distance from the empiricist imperative of mainstream documentary making, documents themselves, and other forms that gesture to the notionally real, continue to intrigue them. Raqs are interested in documents because of the rhetorical spaces that can be prised open while handling documents. These include the elaborate disguises and ruses that the rhetoric of documents sometimes carry with and within itself. Raqs’ work has occasionally investigated these folds and fissures in the documentary mode to create correspondences between fact, facticity (the appearance of something as factual) and the imagination. In their talk at Buchsenausen, Raqs will rehearse an itinerary through this disputed territory, which is claimed contentiously and simultaneously, by reality and some of its close relations. Raqs Media Collective (Monica Narula, Jeebesh Bagchi, Shuddhabrata Sengupta) is a collective of media practitioners based in New Delhi that works in art practice, new media, filmmaking, photography, media theory & research, writing, criticism and curation. Raqs are currently co-curators of the MANIFESTA 7 in South Tyrol/Trentino. www.raqsmediacollective.net www.manifesta7.it An event from the series "Aesthetic Journalism" by Alfredo Cramerotti. _______________________________________________ nettime-ann mailing list nettime-ann@nettime.org http://www.nettime.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/nettime-ann
