MEDIA ARTIST IN PUBLIC CULTURE University of California, San Diego -Visual Arts Department http://visarts.ucsd.edu Assistant Professor, tenure-track, to Associate Professor, tenured, beginning July 1, 2009. Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience and based upon UC pay scales. We seek an outstanding media artist whose practice is research-driven and situated in an expanded field of architectural, urban, and environmental spaces. Candidates can work within the genres of film/video, new media, media installation, photography, architecture, or community-based practices -- but they should exhibit, through research and practice, an in depth engagement with contemporary media and its relationship to the various cultural discourses that investigate the interface between art and public culture. UCSD is a research university that actively promotes and supports creative work within a broadly interdisciplinary arts department that includes studio, computing, media, art and media history, theory and criticism. Teaching will include both graduate seminars and undergraduate courses, large and small. The candidate will actively participate in the ongoing development of the general curriculum as well as our more specific program in Public Culture. MFA or equivalency and teaching experience are required.
