20 February 1909, Marinetti publishes his futurist manifesto in the French newspaper Le Figaro. After 100 years of modern and contemporary history conforming in all facts and points to the Futurists visions, the failing and collapsing of the productivist and industrial world on his actual form is obviously nearing, with all of his consequences?

The XXth Century could be characterized, like the futurists prophesied it, by the obsession of speed . The XXth Century is also remarkable by his obsession of production ( like the constructivists understood it ) and by mass-consumption, by mass-communication and spectacularisation. What is the place for diversity in it? What is the place for the individual in it ? What is the place for contemplation in it ? Contemplation is a key-concept for any creator. and therefore you need Time. The same is valuable for the audience . You can own rapidly an artwork. But to appreciate properly an artwork, you need Time. So the cult and the culture of speed , even though they are at the origin of very interesting creations, could be also fatal culturally to any elaborated form of art _expression_?

The times are changing. Art, Culture and Society too. Slow Future is celebrating in 2009 the End of the Fetishism of Speed and of the Futurist inheritance by a series of artistic and cultural manifestations, interventions, critical publications, manifestos and proclamations, with as climax the 19th and 20th of February where we shall officialize the since so long expected birth of the New Time, the New Culture and the New Art, the Art of the Slow Future.

Public discussion on co-production and working curatorially in conjunction with the exhibition Coalesce: Happenstance

SMART Project Space?s current exhibition Coalesce: Happenstance is part of an evolutionary exhibition project, initiated in 2003 by curator Paul O?Neill. Coalesce: Happenstance is the final version of the project and is the culmination of a six year research into exhibition-making as a form of artistic practice where the accumulation of actors and actions co-produce a single co-habited exhibition form. The project includes a vibrant selection of artists to take part as co-producers to develop new work in response to each other, and to the overall exhibition structure and concept.

As a concluding event SPS organizes a public discussion on co-production and working curatorially with Paul O?Neill, Coalesce artist Dave Beech, as well as with artist Marjolijn Dijkman and curator Binna Choi. Coalesce artist Mick Wilson will link their presentations to the discussion that was initiated by SPS in 2008 parallel to the exhibitions Field Work ? part 1 and Field Work ? part 2. This ongoing discussion aims to articulate methodologies, critical strategies and ways of curating, from the perspective of ecological thinking in particular. Instead of focusing on the physical aspects of ecology ? and herewith potentially directing the discussion toward issues of sustainability in the production, dissemination and presentation of art ? the discussion centres on an ?ecology of ideas?. In an economy of knowledge, ideas and images of immaterial ?goods?, a dialogue on the sustainability of ideas offers the possibility to think (and work) differently within the curatorial framework.

After a holiday visit with his parents, Mikey is heading to the airport to return to his wife and newborn baby. But he doesn?t board the plane. Instead he returns to his parents? loft in lower Manhattan, back to his childhood room that has since been converted to storage. Unsure of his own motivation, he invents excuses about why he?s staying ? his flight is delayed, his flight has been cancelled. As the days go by he becomes more and more entrenched in his adolescent sanctuary, and comes to a point where he must choose between life as it is and life as it was.

From the producers of ''Half Nelson'' and ''Maria Full of Grace'' comes this original and touching story about the fear of taking responsibility and ultimately growing up.

A beautiful, wise, and poker-faced comedy. Jacobs'' style recalls early Jim Jarmusch, only more so (Entertainment Weekly).

Running Stumbled

Rarely in filmmaking does the theory meet the practice, but in the case of the powerful, gritty ''Running Stumbled'', director John Maringouin manages to take us into the heart of the matter in a dramatic exploration of family, life, art, drugs, murder, love and legacy.

After a twenty-five year absence, filmmaker Maringouin returns as the prodigal son to Terrytown, Louisiana. Placed in the centre of an emotional battle, he films a most intimate, frank and strange portrait about the complex relationship between the filmmaker?s estranged father, the Dadaist painter Johnny Roe, Jr., and Roe?s self-destructive wife, Virgie Marie Pennoui.
Johnny is a New Orleans legend, known for being a career heroin user, a street-fighting pimp, and an accused murder. He also once tried to kill his son.

''Running Stumbled'' is a dark, engaging hyper-real fable, a documentary shot with a Southern Soul, and always on-the-edge. It is a tale as dramatic as it is cautionary, enveloped in an atmosphere which has its main characters chasing demons and pursued by death.
