September 23, 2009 - Brooklyn, NY - On October 9 ISSUE Project Room
will be feted by a smattering of today's finest poets along with a
bacchanalian
celebration and performance by These Are Powers. All proceeds will
benefit ISSUE Project Room - the critically acclaimed Brooklyn-based
nonprofit arts
organization featuring more than 200 experimental arts events each year
- as it continues towards its move to 110 Livingston, a 4,800 sq. ft.
Beaux-Arts theater space in downtown Brooklyn to which ISSUE was
awarded a 20-year lease.
The evening will begin with "The Way of the Word", a poetry marathon
curated by Bowery Poetry Club founder Bob Holman and ISSUE's founder,
Suzanne
Fiol. Some of the participating poets include Anne Waldman, Jeffrey
Cyphers Wright, Michael Carter, Beau Sia, Max Blagg, Hettie Jones,
Kenneth
Goldsmith, Judith Malina, Abiodun Oyewole, Steve Dalachinsky and a
group of Flarf poets.

Following "The Way of the
Word," past, present and future will collide in an anachronistic,
glamorous and
disorienting secret society all-night-dance-party with Brooklyn/Chicago
art club tricksters, These Are Powers, who will debut the music video
for "Candyman" (directed by Appropriations Committee kingpin Joe
Krings), the new single off of their forthcoming release with RVNG Intl.
The evening will continue with the daring and visceral trapeze and
improvisational drum duo of Ryan Sawyer and Suzanne Rogaleski's Lone
Wolf and Cub.
These Are Powers will take the stage next for the feature performance,
followed with DJ sets by Matt Radune and Jeremy Campbell.
Conjuring ghosts of 110 Livingston's past when it served as an Elks
Lodge, The (OA) Can Factory garage will be transformed with video
installations by
Williamsburg gallery Secret Project Robot.
Filmed at the gilded 110 Livingston theater-to-be, "Candyman" is a
surrealist dinner party where every course served consists entirely of
sugar and
the guests overindulge in an alternately comedic and nightmarish story.
Conceptualized by These Are Powers and Krings, the video was produced
by a
team assembled by Knowmore resulting in a bizarre, fun and colorful
video that makes a perfect companion piece to an already infectious
song.

ABOUT ISSUE PROJECT ROOM
Founded in 2003 by visionary artist Suzanne Fiol in response to the
critical deficit of art centres in our culture, ISSUE Project Room, a
registered
501(c)(3) nonprofit arts presenter, has emerged as a vital meeting
place for the most disparate forms of creativity whose sole criteria
embodies the
integrity and spirit of artistic _expression_ and exploration. Through
an evolving collaboration with curators, artists and educators, ISSUE
Project Room seeks to foster a wide-range of artistic projects that
challenge and expand conventional practices in art. Since its
inception,
ISSUE Project Room has produced more than 750 critically acclaimed
visual arts, sound/video installation, new and improvised music, and
literary
programs to an audience of 50,000 youth and adults. In 2007-2008, ISSUE
was competitively selected to receive a 20-year rent-free lease in
downtown
Brooklyn on a beautiful 4,800-square-foot jewel box theater at 110
Livingston Street in downtown Brooklyn. In June 2009, ISSUE awarded a
$1.133
million grant from the Brooklyn Borough President toward the $1.729
million necessary for renovating the historic space. For more

THESE ARE POWERS
http://thesearepowers.com
These Are Powers take the familiar and channel it back from the future
primitive. We are a language all our own. It is club beats played live,
found
sounds, pulses, blips, collage, oscillations, electronic watercolor,
decay, regeneration and every vibration in between. Whatever it sounds
like is
not what you think. Look twice. These Are Powers hail from the dual
ports of Brooklyn, NY and Chicago, IL. They are Anna Barie (sings,
electronics),
Pat Noecker (prepared bass, sings), and Bill Salas (electroacoustic
drums, sings). They create movement in freedom, infinity in possibility.
SECRET PROJECT ROBOT
http://www.secretprojectrobot.org/
Secret Project Robot: Art Experiment is a not for profit dedicated to
the documentation and proliferation of contemporary art and current
cultural
trends in music, performance, dance, the party and social theory.
JOSEPH KRINGS
Joseph Krings is a filmmaker from Brooklyn. His directing credits
include previous music videos for These Are Powers and Head of Femur.
As an
editor Krings worked on popular videos for Chin Chin and The Willowz,
as well as numerous short films and advertisements. His latest work on
a short
promo film directed by Azazel Jacobs (Momma's Man) for The Museum of
Modern Art is being considered for numerous awards. He also worked on a
series of
highly regarded short films for The New York Times Style Magazine
starring the likes of Josh Hartnett, Josh Lucas, Lukas Haas, Michael
Pitt and many
others. His work in color correction and online editing helped the
music video for Band of Horses "Is There A Ghost" win Best Alternative
Music Video
from the MVPA.
RVNG
RVNG Intl. (www.igetrvng.com) is a Brooklyn-based record label focused
on releasing limited runs of electronic music mixes, edits, exclusive
remixes
and collaborations, and original material. These Are Powers' "Candyman"
EP marks the first release with fellow Brooklyn bros (and sis) and it
couldn't
be a grittier / prettier thing. Look for the 12" and digital EP
February 2010, both featuring exclusive remixes from the RVNG family.
