From: ATELIER 35 <contact@atelier35.eu Subject: Revolutionary Gear is back in the space of Atelier 35 until November 13th Following the deadly fire in Colectiv Club on October 30, 2015, âBucharest has seen tens of thousands take the streets, igniting important political changes from the resignation of city mayors to the step-down of the government. In such a context, art that proposes a revolutionary ethos takes a new meaning. In Revolutionary Gear, what was either an optimistic promise, either a threat comes now closer to its fulfillment. On the windows of the space, the slogan âORI NOI ORI VOIâ (âIt's either us, or themâ) becomes part of the massive protests. Inside the space the installation of the 24 black squares turned into anti-teargas bandanas await their bearers. Revolutionary Gear - The History of Art Retold Through the Black Square Veda Popovici November 2-13th, 2015 Atelier 35, Èelari 13, Bucharest Open from Monday to Friday from 11 AM to 7 PM One hundred years ago Kazimir Malevich painted the Black Square, one of the most iconic works in art history, and through it, denounced centuries of aesthetic formalism, art for art's sake, and the subordination of art to the taste of the ruling classes. Since then, the black square has become a sign of erudition and class distinction, at odds with the revolutionary vision of its author. If we would be to retrace an art history loyal to the original idea of the black square, wo could tell such a story and how would it look? Revolutionary Gear: the History of Art Retraced Through the Black Square, presents video project that instructs its viewers to reconsider moments in art history as contexts of political antagonisms. This project is part of the Public Speaking programme initiated by Xandra Popescu and Larisa CrunÈeanu and co-curated by Dana Andrei. The programme is made possible with the support of ARCUB, through the financing programme âYou Are Bucharestâ and the following partners: Alexandru Dan Photography, Andreea Goia Photography, AsociaÈia pentru Promovarea Artelor Contemporane, Bucharest Czech Center, DAAD Promos, Ivan Gallery, ODD, UAP, Wasteland Twinning. atelier 35 Â selari 13 Â Bucharest 021211 Â Romania |
