<nettime-ann> Book launch: Yuk Hu, On the Existence of Digital Obects |
. Dear all, We would like to welcome you to the launch of On the Existence of Digital Objects (University of Minnesota Press, 2016) published by our DCRL affiliated researcher Yuk Hui and prefaced by Bernard Stiegler. Yuk Hui’s book is an investigation into the existence of digital objects in light of the proliferation of computational ontologies, and situates this phenomenon within both history of philosophy and computation. This central thesis of the book is to develop a theory of relations in order to understand objects and to politicize the existence of digital objects, by drawing from Simondon, Heidegger and Husserl. In the book launch, Yuk Hui will give a presentation “Beyond ontologies and Ontology,” and follow with discussions and drinks, on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at 6pm at Mondbasis Lünertorstraße 20 21335 Lüneburg “The object of this remarkable groundbreaking book is as elegrant as it is profound – to provide us with a radically objective account of the digital objects that populate our world, both on- and offline. On the existence of Digital Objects is a truly innovative and philosophically grounded ‘object oriented ontology’ that is designed for and can scale to the increasingly complex orders of magnitude confronted in the twenty-first century.” Hope to see you there, Paul _______________________________________________ nettime-ann mailing list nettime-ann@nettime.org http://www.nettime.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/nettime-ann
