[Nettime-bold] PEARCE SQUARED @ UCLA MAY 14 |
From: "Celia Pearce" <cpearce@annenberg.edu> Sent: Friday, May 04, 2001 10:59 AM Subject: PEARCE SQUARED @ UCLA MAY 14 Greetings: I am writing to invite you to a very special event masterminded by Victoria Vesna, Chair of Design | Media Arts at UCLA. Victoria has invited my father, Peter Pearce, and myself, to give back-to-back lectures as part of her Monday night series. For those who are not aware, my dad has been involved in architectural and industrial design since the late 50's. He worked for Charles Eames, and later with Buckminster Fuller, and is considered one of the world's foremost experts in space frame structures. His credits include Biosphere 2, the Navy Pier in Chicago, and the Fremont Street Canopy in Las Vegas, as well as several books including "Structure in Nature is a Strategy for Design," which Victoria cites as one of her major influences. He will discuss his philosopy and approach to high-performance design. I will follow talk on my philosophy of interactive design and the aesthetics of interactivity, which will no doubt weave in meditations and revellations on the mutual continuities, contrasts and and influences of our work. The two talks will be followed by a discussion. This is a rare event and I hope you will be able to attend. Please see the announcement below for details Best Celia Pearce --- UCLA Department of Design | Media Arts presents the Streaming Culture lecture series in the eda: experimental, emergent, electronic, ephemeral environmental digital arts space conceived for talks and short term fluid events and installations.
