[Nettime-bold] FCMM - CALL FOR NEW MEDIA WORKS

CALL FOR PROPOSALS - NEW MEDIA WORKS
Apologies for cross-postings

MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL NEW CINEMA NEW MEDIA (FCMM)
30th Edition
October 11-21, 2001
http://www.fcmm.com

Dynamic and inspired. Challenging and visionary. Provocative and
groundbreaking. All these terms describe the Montreal international
Festival of new Cinema and new Media (FCMM). Recognized for its bold,
eclectic programming, the FCMM is a multidisciplinary happening that fuses
mediums and genres. In keeping with its aim of promoting cinéma d'auteur,
independent video, and creativity in new media, the FCMM is constantly on
the lookout for new and original works. Innovation and exploration are the
guiding principles of the FCMM's programming, which is divided into five
main categories: feature film and video, documentary, short and
medium-length work, performance and digital work.

As a film festival, the FCMM has been at the forefront of the revolution in
motion pictures and sound for thirty years. This year, the New Media
section returns to celebrate its fifth anniversary and to once again tackle
with new forms of artistic expression in the realm of digital culture. The
Festival's Media Lounge as well as the cutting-edge Ex-Centris complex have
already been the hosts of an astounding line-up of new media artists,
hosting many well established acts while remaining a springboard for local
and international emerging artists (see listing at the end of this email).
In order to pursue its commitment towards the development of innovative
ways of displaying and presenting works that integrate the use of new
technologies, the New Media section of the FCMM is calling for proposals in
two new categories: digital creation and performance.

DIGITAL WORK/CREATION
In its effort to join the realm of filmaking and digital culture, this
year's digital work category will feature an international selection of
works created on digital media or using digital image manipulation
techniques. The FCMM is thus seeking creative works that expand the
perspective of filmaking through the use of digital technologies.
Particular consideration will be given to entries demonstrating audacity
and novelty in their ability to create a happening and appeal to festivalgoers.
Best Digital Work -CA$5,000

PERFORMANCE
This category will showcase an international selection of performance
pieces. Entries should be characterized by the creative, innovative and
significant use of moving images, digital image and sound processing, and
new technologies. The FCMM is especially interested in projects
demonstrating innovative approaches to the presentation of interactive
works and time-based artistic interventions. Particular attention will be
paid to projects exploring new forms of narrative.
Best Performance -CA$5,000
