[sorry for cross posting] Salara presents: digital_is_not_analog.01 net.art, hacktivism, reverse engineering, control, privacy, computer love. Lectures, debates, installations, exhibitions, concerts. May 24th, 25th, 26th 2001 Salara, via don Minzoni 18, Bologna, Italy ### CONCEPT ### digital_is_not_analog.01 is the second edition of an international meeting dedicated to the net culture. After the successful debut of last year, this year’s edition of digital_is_not_analog comes with a broader and richer program. The goal of digital_is_not_analog.01 is to investigate the origins, the growth and the development of net culture, in its multiple expression, from net.art to free software to net activism. digital_is_not_analog.01 is a unique occasion to get to know some of the main representatives of the contemporary artistic and cultural scenario of net culture. digital_is_not_analog.01 is an important moment for a collective review over some contemporary artistic productions, still mostly unknown in Italy, and characterized by new ways of production and new interpretation codes, that depart from the traditional aesthetic principles to face the new communication of digital media and information technology. The protagonists of this new art scene will show us how net culture is composed by very different personalities, coming from diverse cultural and geographic background, that nonetheless often share a common spirit and common goals, creating a network of collaborations and confrontations that are able to express, in a new way, the cultural implications emerging with the new network media. The meeting will feature the presentation of net.art works and of artistic software, debates, music performances and installations. The program of digital_is_not_analog.01 reflects the plurality of researches and interventions that characterize the international scene of net culture. Some artists face the development of free software, dealing with this new production under the creative manipulation’s standpoint, as Adrian Ward does, and the theoretical and political implications, as in Florian Cramer’s case, or the experimenting on different media, as for Jaromil. The British Nullpointer will introduce Webtracer, an alternative browser that is able to create new visualizations of the net structure. In the same respect, Rhizome.org editor Alex Galloway is currently working on a project called Carnivore ? after the FBI software with the same name ? that uses packet-sniffing technologies to create vivid depictions of raw data. Among the projects closer to net.art, there is much expectation for the presence of Netochka Nezvanova and for the net.artist activity of the Italian Domiziana Giordano. Much interest is raised also by Amy Alexander’s plagiarist projects, by the presence of audio plagiarism’s pioneers, Negativland. On the Net activism side, Ricardo Dominguez returns to Salara to present new action of Electronic Civil Disobedience, that will be confronted by the anti-corporate activity of Rtmark, a corporation of activists that fights corporate business and culture. Surveillance Camera Players will present their unique performance activity, that takes place in front of surveillance cameras and security systems, while the Spanish Retroyou will let us play with his modified videogames. Also, for the first time in Italy at digital_is_not_analog.01, the first exhibition dedicated to computer virus, by the Italian group epidemiC, and the concert of the first cyberpunk rock band ever, 386DX. ### PROGRAM ### ### Thursday 24 - 17:00 ### Computer Deconstructing I Reverse engineering applied to software, hardware, video games and music. opening: Amy Alexander (USA) - Music performance 17:00 - Festival presentation 17:30 - Alex Galloway (US): http://www.rhizome.org/EI 18:15 - Bifo/epidemiC (Italy): http://www.ready-made.net/epidemic 18:45 - Retroyou (Spain): http://www.retroyou.org 19:30 - Nullpointer (UK): http://www.nullpointer.co.uk/-/tracer.htm break bar ‘La linea’, palazzo Re Enzo, piazza Maggiore 22:00 - 386DX, cyberpunk rock band in concert (Alexei Shulgin) ### Friday 25 - 17:00 ### Computer Deconstructing II Reverse engineering applied to software, hardware, video games and music. 17:00 - Adrian Ward (UK): http://www.auto-illustrator.com 17:45 - Florian Cramer (Germany): http://userpage.fu-berlin.de/~cantsin/index.cgi 18:30 - Surveillance Camera Players (US): http://www.surveillancecameraplayers.org break Computer Civil Disobedience Electronic civil disobedience through campaign, performances and music production 22:00 - Rtmark (US): http://www.rtmark.com 22:45 - Negativland (US): http://www.negativland.com ### Saturday 26 - 17:00 ### Computer Love Net.art and creative production in the Internet through the creation of websites and software. 17:00 - Amy Alexander (US): http://www.plagiarist.org 17:45 - Alexei Shulgin (Russia): http://www.easylife.org 18:30 - Ricardo Dominguez (US): http://www.thing.net/~rdom break 19:30 - Netochka Nezvanova (Denmark): http://www.m9ndfukc.com 20:15 - Domiziana Giordano (Italy): http://www.domiziana.net 21:00 - Jaromil (Austria/Italy): http://www.dyne.org Permanent installations: "virii virus viren viry or the beauty of the source code", by epidemiC "ASCII cam", by Jaromil Moderators: Snafu, The Thing Italia - http://www.ecn.org/thingnet / Gabriele Cosentino, http://www.d-i-n-a.org Info: digital_is_not_analog.organization http://www.d-i-n-a.org e-mail: dina@salara.net Salara Media Lab via Don Minzoni, 18, Bologna http://www.salara.net _______________________________________________ Nettime-bold mailing list Nettime-bold@nettime.org http://www.nettime.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/nettime-bold
