RE: [Nettime-bold] Re: <nettime> Bush's administration new network |
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Our friends (?) in Gov't can't control security on the internet today with the NIPC (National Infrastructure Protection Center) and even with the FBI. What makes them believe or think that another isolated, insulated network will make them successful at securing it? The Gov't has no track record of being able to secure anything they control as there hasn't been any network that has ever been hack proof ever! Perhaps, it is because they are either ignorant about what constitutes network security engineering or very clever knowing that this new network will only secure information from its citizens and not about countering any hacking threat at all. Fortunately, for all of the rest of us living here in the "land of the free and the brave" Authoritarianism here is more of a benevolent dictatorship that isn't very smart though well funded and well intentioned will fail. Steve McAlexander It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself. -- Thomas Jefferson One man with courage makes a majority........ Best. Ana] I don't (yet) see how this is any different from what the Pentagon did. Years ago they decreed that military/DoD traffic would be taken off the net (which was after all originally _their_ net, but they got the hell off when they saw what it was mutating into). They did it, and now it's done. I wonder if it _has_ cut down on problems (like viruses and worms and spammers and employees surfing for Britney pix and cheese-flavored dog food); can anyone comment ? best, fred baube - -- F.Baube(tm) * "Today's mighty oak is G'town MSFS '88 * just yesterday's nut." _______________________________________________ Nettime-bold mailing list Nettime-bold@nettime.org http://amsterdam.nettime.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/nettime-bold -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGPfreeware 7.0.3 for non-commercial use <http://www.pgp.com> iQA/AwUBO8cQiNazH7VNBAc7EQK39gCgmmlcgU6MBQk1S2m/jb+IwbJh27kAnRvb iOhE8SiWT84pb6/e1vVnAEDk =w74C -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ Nettime-bold mailing list Nettime-bold@nettime.org http://amsterdam.nettime.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/nettime-bold
