[Nettime-bold] Re: <nettime> euro currency changeover: Euro-inflatie |
It's having a 10% effect on 100% of Europeans. According to a story in the ANP (The Dutch general news wire service) (translated by a learned colleague) the Dutch consumers' union has busted the hotel, restaurant & cafe industry for jacking up prices in the name of rounding up to the nearest convenient Euro figure. They're claiming it's necessary because all their suppliers are doing the same. However, the president of the consumers' union says he saw no rise in real costs to justify it, and encouraged consumers to boycott "euro-cheats." >From here (NL) it looks like no sector will escape the one-time bump, except where prices and rates are fixed by law or contract, and maybe not even then. In the Netherlands, for example, apartment rent may be raised only once a year, in July. It will be interesting (to Dutch people, anyway) to see whether the rental authority allows landlords to join in the fun next year. Carl, Thankful that at least the beer is still cheap here. reality bytes wrote: > > I'd be interested to know how the change to the Euro which begins on = > Monday affects listers in Europe... stories from the sublime to the = > quotidian are invited, but please keep it real. > > end of msg > > ~~~~~~~ > Laughter is the best medicine. > > # distributed via <nettime>: no commercial use without permission > # <nettime> is a moderated mailing list for net criticism, > # collaborative text filtering and cultural politics of the nets > # more info: majordomo@bbs.thing.net and "info nettime-l" in the msg body > # archive: http://www.nettime.org contact: nettime@bbs.thing.net -- Happiness is the maximum agreement between reality and desire -- Joseph Stalin _______________________________________________ Nettime-bold mailing list Nettime-bold@nettime.org http://amsterdam.nettime.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/nettime-bold
