If only drawing nationalist distinctions were so easy!
Paranoia fever runs as high in Canada as it does in the US, even though it
has no reason to. This is symptomatic of the over-dependent, dysfunctional
relationship that exists between the two "Nations": Canadians' pathological
over-identification with the US, and Americans' willful blindness to their
own power and impact on the rest of the world.
Sadly, many Canadians can't seem to appreciate the fact that there are good
reasons noone will ever bomb the CN Tower.
FYI: Since 911 the Canadian government has agreed to harmonize it's
immigration policy with the US and is also reintroducing discussion about
adopting the American dollar.
When Americans get fearful they police themselves and everyone else.
Canadians, suffering from contact-fear, only seem capable of meekly
mimicing American policy and actions and hoping for the best.
And so, while motivations may differ, Canadian or American, the effects are
the same.
