The events will be honored by the presence of His Excellency Mr. Pekka =
Harttila, The Ambassador of Finland in Romania.

The exhibition is on view until the 16th of February 2001 in =20

_________________________________________________________________

"Interviewing the cities" took shape in the mid 90s at K=FCnstlerhaus
Bethanien; was continued in 1997-1998 at the Akademie Schloss Solitude,
Stuttgart. It was developed in: Vienna, with the support of =
KulturKontakt;
Amsterdam, through the financing of Stichting De Appel; Helsinki, =
through a
residency from the Nordic Institute for Contemporary Art, also supported =
by Sindan Cultural Center, Cluj.=20

A sequel to the projects "The Art History Archive" and "Serving Art",
"Interviewing The Cities" aims at documenting private histories in =
relation
with institutions (political, cultural) and sites (architectural, =
natural).
The project is structured in three steps; main medium - b & w =
photography;
main strategy - interaction with people and environments.=20
Steps:
1. "Re-enacting....". A series of double portraits of "visual =
communities"
(artists, curators, critics, collectors, architects, etc.). Using the
semiotic filter of technical photography, "Re-enacting...." recycles the
knowledge from the "Serving Art" series as a procedure for documenting =
the
role of the human factor within the art mechanisms.

2. "Framing..." An exploration of urbanism, as manifest in the =
historical
development of representational buildings, cityscapes, parks etc. And a
visual research on the relation between nature and city through =
landscape
design. Inspired by the clich=E9s of institutional tourism, the series =
is
illustrating the connections between architecture/natural habitat and =
Power
.
3. "Listening to Sculpture" A thread based on the ambiguous function =
public
monuments fill in the process of building mentalities. Generating
referential energies ignored by the city dwellers at the level of
consciousness, monuments are pivotal in the analysis=20

The present exhibition of subREAL shows a selection of large scale b&w =
photographs made in Helsinki in June-July 2000. The outcome is a =
subjective record to certain ways of building private and collective =
memory, of defining human identities and the way they relate to =
institutional representations of power politics.

PRIVACY LECTURE SERIES
<http://privacy.openflows.org>

"Privacy in the Wireless World"
Thursday, February 8, 2001
7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Mike Gurski
Senior Policy and Technology Adivisor
Information Privacy Commission of Ontario

140 St. George, Room 728
Faculty of Information Studies (building adjacent to Robarts Library)
University of Toronto

As more and more communication media are going wireless, it becomes urgent
to analyze the privacy implications of a wireless world. This is the aim of
Mike Gurski's lecture. To do so he departs from the general questions of
what is wireless and why we should be concerned about privacy in a wireless
world, to then engage in a schematic analysis of the privacy goals in a
wireless world and what different organizations and institutions can do to
achieve them. Mike Gurski will then draw on his personal experience to
offer a case study which illustrates the different problems and solutions
of a wireless future.

Mike Gurski is the Senior Policy and Technology Adivisor for the
Information Privacy Commission of Ontario. Mike has published articles on
e-mail encryption and P3P (Platform for Privacy Preferences), a privacy
specification for the Web, as well as papers on Privacy Design Principles
and Privacy Impact Assessments for Integrated Justice Technology Systems.
This was done in partnership with the United States Justice Department's
Office of Justice Programs. Mike also consults with the Ontario Government
on their Enterprise Information Architecture, Public Key Infrastructure
Inititiatives and Smart Card Project. Mike is also a member of the Policy
Outreach Group the World Wide Consortium that is implementing P3Pinitiative.
