From: "David Walker" <D.R.F.Walker@lboro.ac.uk> GaWC INTELLIGENCE Number 10 Update of the Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) Network GaWC is expanding. It is developing a second base in the Metropolitan Institute at Virginia Tech. The new Institute, an initiative by the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, is based in Alexandria, VA, which is in the Washington city region. Within the overall suite of the Institute¹s research initiatives, GaWC work will focus upon relations between urbanization and globalization, covering issues such as inter-city relations, high-tech industries, and sustainability. Rob Lang (rlang@vt.ed) is the Director of the Institute and will collaborate with Peter Taylor (Associate Director and Visiting Research Professor) and Paul Knox (Dean of the College of Architecture and Urban Studies) in building a GaWC research programme at Alexandria. They will be assisted initially by Troy Gravitt who holds an internship at the Institute.
