From: "David Walker" <D.R.F.Walker@lboro.ac.uk>

GaWC INTELLIGENCE Number 10
Update of the Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) Network

GaWC is expanding. It is developing a second base in the Metropolitan
Institute at Virginia Tech. The new Institute, an initiative by the College
of Architecture and Urban Studies, is based in Alexandria, VA, which is in
the Washington city region. Within the overall suite of the Institute¹s
research initiatives, GaWC work will focus upon relations between
urbanization and globalization, covering issues such as inter-city
relations, high-tech industries, and sustainability. Rob Lang (rlang@vt.ed)
is the Director of the Institute and will collaborate with Peter Taylor
(Associate Director and Visiting Research Professor) and Paul Knox (Dean of
the College of Architecture and Urban Studies) in building a GaWC research
programme at Alexandria. They will be assisted initially by Troy Gravitt who
holds an internship at the Institute.
