Re: <nettime> What is the meaning of Trump's victory? |
Brian, re this: The great achievement of the US Democratic Party since 1968, which I don't mean to deny in any way, is to to have made all those groups formerly called "minorities" into crucial components of a voting bloc. That's a starting point. Now let's ditch the financial elites that currently control the Democratic Party, and replace them with at least a part of the working class, or the so-called "majority" (which is another desperate minorty in its own right, like all of us). --------- Is "the working class" is not composed of "minorities"? Here are some thoughts the (let's be honest, very white) 'anti-globalisation' and Occupy generations, some of whom are at present making less than veiled overtures to the alt-Right over their shared opposition to "the financial elites" and delaying, constantly, the difficult conversation about the racism of economic nationalism that is implicit in such formulations. https://s0metim3s.com/2016/11/10/the-hucksters-of-discontent/ # distributed via <nettime>: no commercial use without permission # <nettime> is a moderated mailing list for net criticism, # collaborative text filtering and cultural politics of the nets # more info: http://mx.kein.org/mailman/listinfo/nettime-l # archive: http://www.nettime.org contact: nettime@kein.org # @nettime_bot tweets mail w/ sender unless #ANON is in Subject:
