<nettime> Art Amongst the Fried Chickens |
Art(Exposures) Amongst the *Fried Chickens ---------------------------- Upon Considering an Exposure 1. There is no way you can subvert a mad interlocking hegemony that is locked in the proliferation "fried chicken." Irony and humor won't do it. your graffiti tags are useless. Your protest marches and active resistance are to no avail. In short: quit representin' yo. Your subversion is the test market for future dystopian commodities. 2. Approach your work as if you are creating a flash or exposure that could potentially and briefly illuminate the borders of what we understand to be the limits. 2a.There are places on the other sides of "here." There are other systems swirling around in which our models have no meaning. "A car at the bottom of the ocean... a displaced module outside of its proper system... a car at the bottom of the ocean is quite peculiar and pretty funny." We laugh because the car at the bottom of the ocean exposes nothing. We laugh because we are temporarily placed outside ourselves and find "nothing" where we once resided. Dream big but, dream in short intermittent bursts and then un-dream again for a while (repeat)... lest your dream cover you in continuous light and your lifetime/work becomes over-exposed, invisible and you (the artist) walk home each evening disenchanted and toward a cynical unraveling. 4. Dreams are a fabric like memory. Dreams serve as temporal, spectral visitations; indicators for pathways and departures. You cannot hold dreams. Dreams will not listen to you. Do not form a political party based on a dream and never attempt to impose structure upon a dream. ---------------------------- The "Construction" of an Exposure 1. You are not constructing but instead you are culling or better yet remembering or forecasting obscurities. 2. You are not building but instead you are encouraging psychic phenomenon. 2a You are a medium. You are not yourself. You are an antennae or even a vessel for other worlds. (http://www.progirl.com/cn9/perimeter_v1.ram) 3. The obscurities you cull must first contact you. Never contact them. Only upon their contact with you should you attempt to fashion them within your exposure or rather begin to "speak with the tongue of that "spirit." 3a. Exposures are intuitive processes. An exercise toward this understanding entails a visit to the grocery store with the intention of acquiring a vegetable for cooking. Arrive at the store with no pre-conceived notions about your preferred vegetable of choice. Go to the produce section and say to yourself, "I will not choose a vegetable, a vegetable will choose me." Soon thereafter you will find yourself at home amongst strange vegetable visitors. 4. Theory forgotten becomes intuition. "To Forget Yourself Yet, Remember Forgetting."
