Op 29 september zal er een bijzondere avond met twee langere concerten 
en drie korte muzikale presentaties in STEIM plaatsvinden. De kern van 
de avond is Laurent Baudoux, die samen met zijn broer Nicolas aka DJ 
Elephant Power, Scratch Pet Land heeft opgericht. Fan Club Orchestra en 
Sun o.k. Papi tempo zijn beide projecten die zeer door Baudoux 
beïnvloed zijn. Hij wordt bijgestaan en geïnspireerd door Niko Uské, 
Ali Durt Morimoto en Quentin Hanon. Zij zullen ook korte solostukken 
spelen. Studio3 zal bovendien door Sun o.k. Papi visueel herontworpen 
zijn.

Fan Club Orchestra is een nevenproject van Scratch Pet Land, waarbij 
soms meer dan 10 mensen betrokken zijn. De muziek geeft soms het gevoel 
van een goedkoop elektro wonderland met haar spaced out theremin en 
gameboy geluiden. Bij optredens worden vaak verschillende instrumenten 
bespeeld zoals gitaar, harmonica, gameboys, mondorgel, trombone, 
draaitafel en talloze instrumenten en voorwerpen. De energie van de 
groep en het vermogen te improviseren is daarin een belangrijke factor. 
Laurent Baudoux geeft zijn instructies aan de spelers via een 
overheadprojector. Hij maakt tekeningen, bepaalt het aantal beats per 
minutes, definieert muzikale thema’s en geeft vorm aan het geluid van 
de groep vanachter het mengpaneel. In het concert van Fan Club 
Orchestra zullen alle gasten meespelen.

Sun o.k. Papi tempo is een soloproject van Laurent Baudoux. Breakcore, 
dub, garage house in een unieke en niet uit te leggen mix. Denk aan 
degenen die zich vervelen, dansend in een onderwater dansclub setting.

De multi-instrumentalist Niko Uské is de oprichter van het Uské. Over 
een recente CD van dit Belgische gezelschap schreef Eugene Chadbourne 
dat het “one of the most inspired recordings of large-group music 
involving factors such as avant-garde jazz, ethnic music, and 
electronics in years” was. De muziek van de groep is onvoorspelbaar, 
maar houdt immer een goede balans tussen compositie en improvisatie. 
Niko Uské zal een solo-set spelen in STEIM en introduceert daarmee zijn 
langverwachte nieuwe album.

De Japanner Ali Durt Morimoto maakt elektro-akoestische muziek en werkt 
tevens met Gameboys, omgevingsgeluid, vreemde speeltjes en objecten die 
geluid voortbrengen. Hij staat ook aan het hoofd van een Japanse 
brass-bigband. Jammer genoeg zal deze niet deelnemen aan het optreden 
deze avond.

Quentin Hanon is een bijzondere gitarist. Afkomstig van speed metal en 
Afrikaanse muziek, maakt zijn stijl van improv juju perfect passend 
binnen de idiosyncratische gemeenschap binnen de Sun Papi familie. 
Quentin heeft net zijn eerste 12 inch uitgebracht op residence Baudoux.

On 29 September there’ll be a special event with two longer concerts 
and three short musical presentations in STEIM’s studio3. The nucleus 
of the event is Laurent Baudoux, who formed Scratch Pet Land together 
with his brother Nicolas aka DJ
Elephant Power. Fan Club Orchestra and Sun o.k. Papi tempo are both 
projects in which Baudoux is very influential. He will be supported and 
inspired by multi-instrumentalist Niko Uské, the Japanese Ali Durt 
Morimoto and the guitar player Quentin Hanon. All three of them will 
also do short solo sets. Studio3 will also be visually redesigned by 
Sun ok Papi k.o.

Fan Club Orchestra
The Fan Club Orchestra is a side project of Scratch Pet Land with 
sometimes more than 10 people involved. They play percussion, guitar, 
harmonica, gameboys, mouth organs, trombone, turntables and lots of 
other instruments and devices. Everything depends on the energy of the 
group and their ability to improvise together. Laurent Baudoux gives 
the directions on an overhead projector . He makes drawings, gives the 
BPM, he introduces musical themes and he manipulates the mixing board 
that gets all the sounds of all the musicians.

Sun o.k. Papi tempo is a solo project of Laurent Baudoux. Breakcore, 
dub, garage house in a very unique and unexplicable mix. Think of the 
boredoms doing a dance set in an underwater dancehall club.

The multi-instrumentalist Niko Uské has founded his own Uské Orchestra. 
A recent CD of the group was described by Eugene Chadbourne as “one of 
the most inspired recordings of large-group music involving factors 
such as avant-garde jazz, ethnic music, and electronics in years”. The 
music of the group is unpredictable and maintains a fine balance 
between composition and improvisation. Niko Uské will do a solo set in 
STEIM introducing his long awaited new album.

The Japanese Ali Durt Morimoto produces electro acoustic music and 
works with gameboys, environmental sound and all sorts of sound devices 
that produce interesting sounds. He is also the head of a japanese 
brass bigband which unfortunately will not part his performance this 
night.

Quentin Hanon is a special guitar player. Coming from speed metal and 
African music he found his style of improv juju perfectly within the 
idiosyncratic community of the Sun Papi family. Quentin just released 
his debut 12” op residence baudoux.
