Beste lezer
De komende weken zien er veelbelovend en 
enerverend uit. Twee nieuwe multidisciplinaire 
voorstellingen gaan in premiere en twee festivals 
met een prikkelende programmering staan voor de 
deur. En daarnaast zijn er tal van andere 
evenementen waar ik bij betrokken ben en waarvoor 
ik graag je aandacht zou willen vragen.

My Ultradeep I, een multidisciplinaire 
voorstelling van Marko Ciciliani, uitgevoerd door 
Bakin Zub, geproduceerd door Barooni
My Ultradeep I is een avondvullende compositie 
voor instrumenten, elektronica en licht van Marko 
Ciciliani. De speciaal ontworpen lichtcompositie 
is complementair aan de muziek. My Ultradeep I 
markeert tevens de start van Ciciliani's nieuwe 
ensemble, Bakin Zub. My Ultradeep I" werpt een 
blik op de vijf zintuigen, waarmee we voelen, 
ruiken, proeven, horen en zien. Vervolgens neemt 
het je mee op een zoektocht naar het vermeende 6e 
zintuig, het metafysische begrip voor het "zelf".

 Solitude van Robert van Heumen en Arnoud 
Noordegraaf, een productie van Barooni
Solitude is een audiovisuele voorstelling, waarin 
de bezoeker wordt meegevoerd in de 
belevingswereld van de hoofdpersoon, een reis die 
hem leidt naar de uithoeken van de geest. Met 
hoofdtelefoons op en gescheiden van andere 
bezoekers door transparante projectieschermen 
bevinden de bezoekers zich in een geïsoleerd, 
audiovisueel décor.

DEAF, Dutch Electronics Arts Festival van V2: 25 
jaar V2 programma en STEIM programma
DEAF presenteert op 14 april: the evening of V2_: 
25 year anniversary, dat mede door mij is 
samengesteld. Op het programma staan Ryoji Ikeda 
'Datamatics', Staalplaat Soundsystem 'Yokomono', 
Mouse on Mars, Edwin van der Heide 'LSP', Maurice 
Benayoun en Jean-Baptiste Bariere 'E-spotting' en 
S.S.S., een trio met Atau Tanaka, Laurent 
Dailleau en Cécile Babiole.
Ook ben ik nauw betrokken bij het STEIM-programma 
op 12 april, waarin DJ Sniff (Takuro Mizuta 
Lippit), Michel Waisvisz & Christine Sehnaoui, 
Mazen Kerbaj & Joel Ryan en Atau Tanaka te zien 
en te horen zullen zijn.

14 april, the evening of V2_: 25 year anniversary

Muze, een muziektheater voorstelling van Arnoud Noordegraaf en Luuk Vierhout
Op 17 mei zal Muze, een muziektheater 
voorstelling van Arnoud Noordegraaf en Luuk 
Vierhout, die ik geproduceerd heb voor Huis a/d 
Werf in premiere gaan in het Festival a/d Werf. 
In deze muziektheatervoorstelling gebruikt de 
mythische figuur Orpheus beelden met 
getuigenissen en levensverhalen van mensen om 
zijn verdwenen liefde terug te halen in zijn 
herinnering.

Festival a/d Werf
Voor het Utrechtse Festival a/d Werf heb ik het 
volgende muziekprogramma samengesteld.
17 t/m 20 mei. Silencer van Cilia Erens is een 
bijzondere voorstelling over zwijgen, over stilte 
in groepen, waarbij geluid de hoofdrol speelt.
21 mei. Een avond rond het werk van Harry Smith, 
met medewerking en werk van Meindert Talma & the 
Negroes, Roel Bentz van den Berg (lezing), Rani 
Sing (documentaire) en Harry Smith (film)
Harry Smith (1923 - 1991) was verzamelaar, 
filmer, schilder en magiër. Kortweg: 
levenskunstenaar. Zijn verzameling stokoude 
folk-, country- en bluesliedjes uit de jaren '20 
en '30, The Anthology of American Folk Music, is 
een schatkamer van muziek en een grote 
inspiratiebron voor artiesten als Bob Dylan, Nick 
Cave en Moby.
22 mei. Een avond rond het Excelsior-label met 
opkomende artiesten als Do-the-Undo, El Pino & 
the Volunteers, Flux en Scram C Baby.
25 mei. De voorstelling Diapasión, van de 
vermaarde stemkunstenares Fatima Miranda, is een 
muzikale voorstelling met theatrale en poëtische 
elementen en roept herinneringen op aan geluiden, 
waarvan je dacht dat je ze vergeten was.
26 mei. Francisco Lopez heeft een geheel eigen 
sonisch universum geschapen, waar hij langs de 
uitersten van de perceptie lijkt te scheren.

Changing Soundscapes, een geluidsinstallatie van 
Renate Zentschnig en Justin Bennett
Een Barooni productie i.h.k.v.  Avontuurlijke Muziek in Leidsche Rijn
De geluidsinstallatie Changing Soundscapes van 
theatermaker Renate Zentschnig en 
geluidskunstenaar Justin Bennett gaat over het 
veranderde geluidslandschap verteld door bewoners 
in persoonlijke verhalen.
Februari t/m oktober, Informatiecentrum Leidsche Rijn, Utrecht.


Ensemble MAE
Het Ensemble MAE heeft haar nieuwe programma New 
Narratives met sukses in premiere laten gaan in 
Paradiso, Amsterdam. Voorts heeft ze in Budapest 
en Birmingham optredens en workshops gegeven en 
heeft ze een CD opgenomen met werk van de 
Amerikaanse pionier Robert Ashley.

The Night of the Unexpected
Op 6 september vindt the Night of the Unexpected 
plaats in Paradiso. Op 16 november vindt als 
opening van het befaamde Huddersfield 
Contemporary Music Festival in Engeland the Night 
of the Unexpected plaats met Nederlandse en 
Engelse artiesten. Plannen voor een Night of the 
Unexpected in Budapest zijn in de maak.

Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival
Tijdens het Huddersfield Contemporary Music 
Festival zal er dit een groot programma 
plaatsvinden met Nederlandse artiesten, waaronder 
het Ensemble MAE, de multidisciplinaire 
voorstelling Buffer Zone van Yannis Kyriakides en 
zoals gezegd een editie van the Night of the 
Unexpected.

Tesla festival
Ook in november zal er een festival plaatsvinden 
in Tesla in Berlijn, waar veel Nederlandse en 
Duitse componisten, musici, en performers te zien 
zijn. Het festival toont het werk van sterk 
opkomende makers, die zich van een experimentele, 
conceptuele taal bedienen. Muziek, theater, 
performance en beeldende kunst lijken elkaar te 
raken in hun werk. En het gebruik van 
technologische middelen speelt vaak een 
belangrijke rol. Een aantal van hun hebben bij 
Dick Raaijmakers gestudeerd. Het werk van deze 
unieke pionier lijkt een inspiratiebron te zijn 
geweest voor velen.

Dear reader
The upcoming weeks look very promising. Two new 
multidisciplinary performances will be premiered 
and two festivals with exciting programmes are 
about to start. Additionally there are lots of 
other activitities that I'm involved in for which 
I'd like to ask your attention.

My Ultradeep I, a multidisciplinary performance 
by Marko Ciciliani, performed by Bakin Zub, 
produced by Barooni
My Ultradeep I is a composition for instruments, 
electronics and lights by Marko Ciciliani. The 
light composition is complementary to the music. 
My Ultradeep I also marks the start of 
Ciciliani's new ensemble, Bakin Zub. My Ultradeep 
I firstly takes a view on the five human senses 
with which we feel, smell, taste, hear and see. 
Then it embarks on an encounter with the 
ficticious 6th sense as the metaphysical sense of 
the "I".

Solitude by Robert van Heumen and Arnoud Noordegraaf, a Barooni production
Solitude is an audio-visual performance by Arnoud 
Noordegraaf and Robert van Heumen, in which the 
audience is led into the mind of the protagonist, 
a journey which leads one to the outskirts of the 
mind. Wearing headphones and separated from the 
other spectators by semi transparent projection 
screens, the audience find themselves in a 
secluded, audio visual environment.

DEAF, Dutch Electronics Arts Festival of V2: 25 
years of V2 programme and STEIM programme
DEAF presents on April 14: the evening of V2_: 25 
year anniversary, which I co-programmed. The 
line-up consists of Ryoji Ikeda 'Datamatics', 
Staalplaat Soundsystem 'Yokomono', Mouse on Mars, 
Edwin van der Heide 'LSP', Maurice Benayoun and 
Jean-Baptiste Bariere 'E-spotting' and S.S.S., a

14 April, the evening of V2_: 25 year anniversary

Muze, a music theatre performance by Arnoud Noordegraaf and Luuk Vierhout
On 17 May, Muze, a music theatre piece by Arnoud 
Noordegraaf and Luuk Vierhout, which I have 
produced for Huis a/d Werf, will be premiered in 
Festival a/d Werf. In this piece, the mythical 
Orpheus figure uses images of the testimonies and 
the life stories of other people to retrieve the 
memories of his absent beloved.

For the Utrecht based Festival a/d Werf I have 
put together the following programme.
17 through 20 May. Silencer of Cilia Erens is a 
special performance about being silent, about 
silence in groups, in which sound plays a maojor 
role.
21 May. An evening around the work of Harry 
Smith, with work of Meindert Talma & the Negroes 
(music), Roel Bentz van den Berg (lecture), Rani 
Sing (documentary) and Harry Smith (film)
Harry Smith (1923 - 1991) was a collector, film 
maker, painter and magician. His collection of 
old folk-, country- and blues songs from the 
'20's and '30's, The Anthology of American Folk 
Music, is a treasure of music and it's been a 
huge inspiration for artists such as Bob Dylan, 
Nick Cave and even Moby.
22 May. An evening around the Excelsior label 
with upcoming bands such as Do-the-Undo, El Pino 
& the Volunteers, Flux and Scram C Baby.
25 May. Diapasión, of the singer Fatima Miranda, 
is a musical performance with theatrical and 
poetic elements.

regions of our perception.

Changing Soundscapes, a sound installation of 
Renate Zentschnig and Justin Bennett
A Barooni production
Changing Soundscapes is a sound art work by 
theatre maker Renate Zentschnig and sound artist 
Justin Bennett that deals with the changing sonic 
landscape in Leidsche Rijn, told by inhabitants 
in personal stories.
February through October, Information Center Leidsche Rijn, Utrecht.

Ensemble MAE
The Ensemble MAE has premiered her new programme 
New Narratives successfully at the Paradiso, 
Amsterdam recently. In the last couple of months, 
the MAE has also done performances and workshops 
in Budapest and Birmingham and the ensemble has 
recorded a CD by the work of the American pioneer 
Robert Ashley.

The Night of the Unexpected
On September 6, the Night of the Unexpected will 
take place again in Paradiso, Amsterdam. On 
November 16, the Night of the Unexpected will be 
the opening event of the well known Huddersfield 
Contemporary Music Festival in England with a 
programme of Dutch and English artists. Plans for 
some Nights of the Unexpected in Budapest are in 
the making.

Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival
In the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival 
there'll be a considerable programme with Dutch 
artists, amongst them the Ensemble MAE, the 
Buffer Zone by Yannis Kyriakides and, as 
mentioned above, a new edition of the Night of 
the Unexpected.

Tesla festival
Also in November there'll be a festival in Tesla, 
Berlin, where quite a few Dutch and German 
composers, musicians and performers will be 
presenting their work. The festival focusses on 
upcoming artists with an experimental, conceptual 
language. Music, theatre, performance and visual 
arts seem to meet in their work. The use of 
technology plays an important role. A number of 
the Dutch artists have studied with Dick 
Raaijmakers. The work of this unique pioneer may 
have been a source of inspiration for many 
artists.
