We are looking for a PhD candidate for the NWO project ‘GAMPSISS: GAmeful Music Performances for Smart, Inclusive, and Sustainable Societies’. In this project you will collaborate with researchers and students with engineering, social sciences, and fine arts backgrounds. Moreover, twenty top-ranking orchestras and concert halls in the Netherlands will participate in the project. Together, you will explore how classical music performances may be embedded in pervasive game play by audiences. Then, you will study how such gameful music performances may contribute to a new, active listening culture that will foster smart, inclusive, and sustainable societies. Your part in the project will be to perform solid scientific research on the design of gameful performances and their effects on active listening and good citizenship among their communities of players. Functie-eisen Applicants should have the following qualifications: • Master’s degree in Interaction Design, (Game and) Media Technology, User Experience Design, Gamification, Experiential Learning, Engineering and Policy Analysis, or a related (design-oriented) field • Strong organisational skills • Strong qualitative and quantitative methodological skills for empirical research in multi-disciplinary teams • Experience in scientific writing, or at least a keen interest and motivation to acquire such skills • Excellent command of the English language (please write your application in English) • Feeling for (board) games, classical music, and/or the performance arts is considered a plus.
