*Residencies at new Romanian art centre, Transylvania*
Posted: 07-05-2007
Morisena art centre in Transylvania, Romania invites artists to apply
for various residency projects to help launch this new international
artists space.
// Decorating Morisena art centre 2nd - 29th July
Morisena www.morisena.org <http://www.morisena.org> offers a space for
international collaborative art projects, seminars on ecology,
sustainability, contemporary art related issues, summer camps and at
times a dorm for backpackers. In June the attic will be renovated as
designed by Dutch architects Harm Timmermans and Stijn Kemper (it needs
insulation, a floor and heating installations) and in July we intend to
take care of its inner look and feel.
About 9 artists are invited to help us decorate the living and working
space at Morisena. We will provide food and lodging during the project,
interactions with the local community as well as materials and funds for
the furniture and decorations to be built during the camp. The exciting
part of the project will be organising the official opening of Morisena
in the weekend of 7th July ~ a three days event as old times wedding
parties used to happen in Transylvania. Special guests and friends Dr
Schnaps and Dj Olga from Geneva http://www.myspace.com/gypsysoundsystem
will bring the nights on fire, together with few more friends DJ's
invited (surprise!)

// Hitchhiking to Transylvania -- collaborative video art project 1 --
31 August 2007
About 7 video artists from north and south, east and west will be
invited to hitchhike to Morisena, in the heart of Transylvania. On the
way, they will record images, sounds / music, representing whatever
inspires charms or intrigues them. The meeting point is Morisena, the
centre for art residencies, cultural exchange and local development
established in Sangeorgiu de Mures, on the 1 st of August 2007.
Perhaps a week is needed for the artists to get familiar with each
other, to watch each others material and to figure out a way of working
together and to decide about the ways the material will be used for the
end result, for example recomposing fragments according to a script to
be written together. Artists may need to shoot some more material on the
spot / in the surroundings. The last week will be reserved for the
editing and final processing of the art video.
At the end of August a screening will take place at Teatru 74 (in Targu
Mures). Dissemination, as well as a DVD publishing and spreading through
our network will be provided. The movie will be presented submitted to
various art / alternative film festivals.
Continuity and follow up : in 2008 we intend to have the film
"travelling" back to the original departure points of each artist, with
a team of caravans leaving Morisena at the same time and stopping on the
road to various locations -- at centres that would be interested in
discussing the film. Various screenings can take place simultaneously,
followed by round table discussions and teleconferences via webcams in
order to discuss issues such as identity of the traversed spaces etc.
This project can be developed in collaboration with SODAart
(www.sodaart.at ) in the context of their NOMAD project, that can
provide the needed caravans equipped with all it takes for screenings
and round-table discussions.

// TransyMusic 20 November -- 20 December 2007 a collaboration with Ergo
Phizmiz (UK) www.ergophizmiz.com
Seven artists and musicians from east and west, north and south will be
invited to take part in a unique and collaborative process for the
creation of contemporary music inspired by Transylvanian vibes. Artists
should bring their own instruments. We will provide microphones and
sound recording / editing equipment. Ancient local songs (live and
recorded) from the Mures valley / Transylvania will be regularly
presented as an inspiration for the abroad participants. These songs
will be from local Romanian, Hungarian and Gipsy cultures.
Artists from sculpture and video-art will also be invited to respond to
Transymusic and document the process creatively. Throughout the project
we will look at innovative ways of combining the visual and sound
elements of Transymusic.
In what will be an exploratory and experimental process, the month will
be used cross-pollinating, improvising, recording, and experiencing the
local culture, bringing diverse elements together and creating dialogues
culminating a body of work with a number of outlets, including a
concert, a CD, an art installation, and a web-based archive.
A concert will be held in Targu Mures based Teatru 74 -- inside the
middle age fortress of the city - at the end of the residency. The art
installation will be exhibited in one of the art galleries in the area,
and the CD with TransyMusic and documentation about it will be sent to
our network of curators / galleries, disseminating the project
internationally. The web-archive will comprise a collection of sound
files from the duration of the project, licensed with a Creative Commons
license for further recomposition and creative uses. As a way of
creating connections between various Morisena projects and participating
artists, we may use the TransyMusic for the fashion parade of
NoMode-TransyMode project on 2008.
Artists to be invited include practitioners from Japan, India,
South-America, Germany, England, Indonesia , Africa, and Thailand.

// Morisena will provide food and lodging during the project. The
conditions are fine but not luxurious and together we'll make sure the
place will be clean, messy and cozy. There will be home made wine, and
some delicious home made jams and more, all own production with fruits
and veggies coming mainly from our own (and the neighbors) biologic
gardens. Participants are invited to bring a sleeping bag and their good
moods as well as a lot of ideas about how to make something amazing with
little money. Something something specific from their own country to be
shared in the residency after-party would be nice.
