In Philippine mythology, gimokud or the soul goes about its customary existence at night and halts when the day nears. Just before sunrise, every gimokud fashions a boat out of a leaf and there sits waiting for the heat of the sun to dissolve it into water. In the daytime, the existence of the soul are leaf vessels full of water. But as soon as the sun sets and darkness takes over the land, the gimokud resumes its active existence. Gimokud - the Melting Soul is a cooperative digital art project. To become involved you must send two JPEG images - that of yourself and of an object that you would bring with you if you were to travel as a gimokud. The recipient of your images (they are students of Digital Media at the College of Fine Arts, University of the Philippines) will then create the leaf vessel upon which your gimokud will reside.
