BODIES - Solo exhibition

Skuc Gallery, 2. - 26. August 2001 

 

We kindly invite you to attend the opening of Miha Knifics first solo show
Bodies on Thursday the 2nd of August at 9. p.m. at Skuc Gallery.

Miha Knific (born 1976 in Kranj) is a young artist who lives and works in
Ljubljana. The exhibition Bodies will comprise of series of new works
executed through photography, video & slide projections and small object
which use representations of the body to create a reflexive-esthetical
meaning. The works depict close ups of human bodies including skin, arms,
orifices. The orifice (of a body) is the space between the inside and
outside, marking the presence of the in-between, it is a place of physical
and psychological fascination that focuses our enquiries. The shows title
stands for a metaphorical meaning of bodies. Bodies is about perceiving and
the search for poetical values: the body equated with the body of work, the
body as the spatial body of the exhibition, and the body of the viewer
himself. 

To contextualise Miha Knifics work in Ljubljana would be to consider the
work of Joze Barsi, Vadim Fiskin or Tobias Putrih. Knifics practise
utilises a similar sensitivity to his subject matter. 

Miha Knifics works are discreet propositions, which seem to be deliberately
non-spectacular. The viewer does not merely absorb Knifics images, but
every time he or she has to learn again how to look, in order to see.
