Syndicate: Guy Debord at the 57th Venice Film Festival |
"The 57th Venice International Film Festival, which will be held from August 29 to September 8, will pay homage to the cinematographic work of the French intellectual Guy Debord (1931-1994) and to a star of the Polish cinema, the non conformist director Andrzej Munk (1921-1961). The 58th Mostra of Venice will present a retrospective of the key films of Guy Debord, "which probably constitute the most secret part and least known" of the main protagonist of the situationist movement, according to organizers'. In agreement with the heirs of Guy Debord, who committed suicide in 1994, "Howlings in favour of Sade" (1952), "The Society of the Spectacle" (1973) and "In girum imus nocte and consumimur igni" (1978) will be presented in new copies. They were "invisible for decades because of the explicit will of the author", pointed out the organizers of the festival. Mostra will devote a second retrospective section to Andrzej Munk. The festival goers will be able to discover (or rediscover) six long films and fifteen short films of this director, prematurely killed in a road accident and who's talent inspired the Polish auteurs, Roman Polanski and Krzysztof Kieslowski." -----Syndicate mailinglist-------------------- Syndicate network for media culture and media art information and archive: http://www.v2.nl/syndicate to post to the Syndicate list: <syndicate@eg-r.isp-eg.de> to unsubscribe, write to <majordomo@eg-r.isp-eg.de>, in the body of the msg: unsubscribe syndicate your@email.adress
