FRENCH-BALTIC-NORDIC VIDEO & ELECTRONIC ART FESTIVAL 10. - 16. November 1997. Riga, Latvia 1. The organizers of the French-Baltic-Nordic New Media Art festival is the Multimedia Center of the Latvian Academy of Culture (MMC), French Embassy in Latvia and The Information Bureau of Nordic States. 2. The competition is open to works in any video or computer animation technique emphasizing the equality of image and sound in creating an artistic unity. 3. Only works produced after 1st March 1996 should be submitted. 4. A maximum of three pieces of work per author can be enter for the film and video competition. 5. Entries have to be submitted on video tape. Accepted formats: BETACAM SP, S-VHS, VHS (PAL only). 6. Each work (preview tape) must be accompanied by a separate, legible Entry Form and a still from the work, biography and filmography of the author, synopsis, photo of author, poster or booklet available. 7. There is no entry fee. Please fill out Entry Form in English. The Entry Form can be photocopied. If there are more than one entries please use separate form for each work. 8. Entries must be completed, signed and submitted before 1st July, 1997. 9. Entries are subject to the approval of the organizers. The results of the selection committee will be announced by 1st September, 1997 10. Selected entries will be judged by an international jury. 11. Works submitted to the competition may be aired in television programs connected with the Festival, in accordance with the artists preferences as stated on the Entry Form. 12. The Festival is not able to pay ant rental or screening fee. 13. All prints will be returned within four week after the festival. 14. The costs for postage and return postage for preview material takes place at the expense of the sender. Material posted from abroad must be marked with the comment "Artwork - Only for Cultural Purposes - Not for Commercial Use". It is also recommended that the necessary reimportation documents be issued by the respective customs office before postage. 15. A cost calculation, as well as a detailed description, photos and then available a video documentation must be provided for installations, performances, INTERNET, CD-Rom, multimedia and other projects. 16. after receiving and previewing video entries the preview jury will decide in which categories they will be screened at the Festival. There is a MAIN PROGRAM independent from any other program and there are the CATEGORY PROGRAMS. 17. The International Jury will present one Grand Prix (independent from the category prizes), CATEGORY PRIZES and qualifying prizes. Also there are special prizes: Press Prize, The Audienceâs Prizes, etc. WE HOPE THAT THIS FESTIVAL WILL BE THE PLACE WHERE AN ABUNDANCE OF ORIGINAL, NEW AND PARTICULAR VIEWS WILL PLAY A MAJOR ROLE, WHERE ARTIST WITH DIFFERENT THINKING AND FREE THOUGHTS WILL COME TOGETHER Valdis Poikans contact:<valdis.mmc@parks.lv>
