cached 6: NETWORKED SPACES

Friday 30 October, 1998 at 19.30 in the Brandon Room at the
INSTITUTE OF CONTEMPORARY ART, THE MALL, LONDON

"Public Art and the Web"

Back from our media festival season break, Cached 6: NETWORKED SPACES will
explore the increasing number of projects which relate networked media to
physical public spaces. The event will ask : What is the relationship
between an online and a physical space? Who are the audiences and how do
they engage with each other? Can network media create a meaningful
dialogue between 'real' locations?

Cached 6: NETWORKED SPACES will include:

* Susanna Paasonen and Tapio Makela, whose ironic critique of consumer
purity, Hygeia Revisited, was installed in shop windows as part of the ISEA
98 festival in Liverpool and Manchester and presented at the Root '98 -
Lucid festival in Hull (http://www.channel.org.uk/hygeia)

* Simon Poulter's 'digital stamp album' web site and banner project,
Hyperphilately, which was commisioned as a Photo 98 public art project and
presented during the Lovebytes festival, Sheffield
(http://www.hypertribes.org.uk/hyperphilately)

* Susan Collins, whose networked installation In Conversation used video
projections, speech synthesis and RealPlayer streaming to link webusers
with the street in Brighton and Amsterdam and is currently installed in
Finland ( http://www.inconversation.com live from 2pm to 5pm GMT Monday to
Friday at Gallery Otso in Espoo and on the web until 30 October)

The presentations will be followed by an open discussion and questions from
the floor.
