Syndicate: Opening of the SMAK Virtual Museum - SMAK.ORG |
Opening of the SMAK Virtual Museum - SMAK.ORG The prestigious Museum of Contemporary Art of Ghent, Belgium (SMAK - Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst) reopened its doors after a thorough renovation of its buildings. The inauguration of the museum was celebrated with glorious festivities (huge techno parties, performances, even a boxing match) and lots of media attention - but, for now, no public debates, no politically relevant activities, no critical questioning of the role of the museum or art in general - pane et circenses. No involvement in technology either. Critical public debates about (network) technology, alternative views on the Internet, participation in the current discussions about globalization, e-commerce and e-cash, privacy issues, free / open source software, etc. etc. - all these are virtually absent or extremely marginal in Flanders/Belgium. A group of anonymous researchers and students have bought the SMAK.ORG domain and is exhibitioning a wide variety of people and groups who make good and/or interesting and/or constructive and/or challenging use of technology. - To unsubscribe, send the message "unsubscribe n5m3-debates-l" - to majordomo@waag.org - - Archive: http://www.n5m.org/mail-archive/hypermail2/ ------Syndicate mailinglist-------------------- Syndicate network for media culture and media art information and archive: http://www.v2.nl/syndicate/ to unsubscribe, write to <syndicate-request@aec.at> in the body of the msg: unsubscribe your@email.adress
