Date: Wed, 02 Jun 1999 10:11:36 -0400 From: "Art & Science Collaborations, Inc. (ASCI)" <asci@asci.org> Subject: Digital Storytelling Guru in Benefit for ASCI @Kitchen in NYC... DANA ATCHLEY TO PERFORM "NEXT EXIT" - A DIGITAL-STORYTELLING FIRST FOR NEW YORK, JUNE 2 & 3, AT THE KITCHEN Next Exit blends performing arts, technology and traditional storytelling to create interactive evening around the campfire telling stories - digitally. NEW YORK, NY - (June 2 & 3, 1999)- Digital storytelling guru Dana Atchley will perform his interactive theatrical creation, Next Exit, a New York-debut performance that follows his life story, at the Kitchen, today and tomorrow, June 2 & 3rd. Next Exit, a benefit performance for the NYC-based non-profit organization, Art & Science Collaborations, Inc., will highlight the innovative recombination of today's performing arts, technology and the best of the legacies our ancestors have left us. Atchley, a master storyteller who has been featured in recent publications such as Presentations and Fast Company magazines, has been touted as the Will Rogers of Digital Storytelling. Armed only with a campfire (TV screen) and a little technology to support him, this interactive artist will bring Digital Storytelling to life. He will begin and then allow the audience to decide which exit is the "Next Exit," their story will take. Digital Storytelling accentuates the strengths of various mediums--including still-frame photography, motion pictures, computer technology, spoken language, music and the Internet--to reach out, touch and eventually massage the heart and mind of the audience at the point of contact thereby achieving the ultimate goal of storytelling--engagement. In addition to Next Exit, Dana has created digital stories and emotional branding (tm) opportunities for The Coca-Cola Company, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Hallmark Cards, and Broderbund Software to name a few. He is the founder and director of the annual Digital Storytelling Festival in Crested Butte, Colo., and was recently named a Top 100 Producer of 1998 by AV Multimedia producer magazine. Dana's work has been covered by many publications including Presentation, Fast Company, Rolling Stone, the San Francisco Examiner, and TV Guide. The Kitchen is located at 512 West 19th Street. Shows each night bill begin at 8:00 p.m. The performance is open to the public and the $20, at-the-door tickets go on sale at 6:00 p.m. for the night of the show.
