<nettime> "A good topic for debate in an open society." |
(a) http://www.state.gov/secretary/rm/2006/63855.htm The resolution is at http://www.asil.org/events/am06/resolutions.html (b) The famous Scalia speech in Switzerland (Fribourg), which has IMHO two sides, is at in full lenght at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6697450419422094906&q=scalia&pl=true A shorter version with the much quoted famous and the IMHO more important unquoted - "How long will this war last?" The topic is habeas corpus! - sentenses is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZAQu_iwjEM (c) There would be a lot to say about Scalias method of thinking. Lets take slavery, a theoretical problem, hopefully, that was perfectly legal under the U.S. constitution up to not very long ago. A more practical problem is the death penalty - what is law, what are morals, what is the constitution, what is simple law good for. But that would move the focus to far away from "Condi Rice was surreal". Just one reminder: Larry Lessig of "creativ commons" etc fame was one of Scalias clercs as well, H. # distributed via <nettime>: no commercial use without permission # <nettime> is a moderated mailing list for net criticism, # collaborative text filtering and cultural politics of the nets # more info: majordomo@bbs.thing.net and "info nettime-l" in the msg body # archive: http://www.nettime.org contact: nettime@bbs.thing.net
