Thanks, this is very important. But it omits to specifically mention one of
the biggest obstacles that open source AI faces, which is the same obstacle
that faces those fighting to save end-to-end encryption: the "think of the
children" trump card. The disgust that people feel when they think about
generative AI being used to generate sexualized images of children is being
utilized to drive the regulation of open source AI. I wrote a little about
this here, though there have been some new developments since then,
including 50 U.S. Attorneys General and the UK's Internet Watch Foundation
both calling for bans on open source AI to protect (virtual) children:
