LEEUWARDEN, 14 SEPT - Het internationale tentoonstellingsprogramma  
van het Media Art Festival 07 heet Spotlight. Max Hattler heeft zijn  
eerste solo tentoonstelling ooit.

Spotlight Max Hattler - Landscape of human exhistance

Landscape of human existence presenteert twee Nederlandse premières.  
Geïnteresseerd in de ruimte tussen abstractie en het figuratieve,  
waar verhalen bevrijd zijn van het traditioneel narratief. Hattler’s  
werk peinst over microkosmossen, momenten, atmosferen; close-ups als  
reflecties van het grotere geheel. Ondanks dat zijn films over het  
algemeen zonder dialoog zijn, onderzoeken zij de relatie tussen  
geluid, muziek en bewegend beeld. Als onderdeel van een jonge,  
internationale generatie filmmakers transformeren Hattler’s ideeën in  
individuele meesterwerken.

Mount Allen, 3:40 Duitsland/Groot-Brittannië 2007

Mount Allen, een muziek video voor avant-garde rockers Economy Wolf.  
Deze tweede samenwerking tussen Max Hattler en Economy Wolf is een  
vervolg op de succesvolle video Theme For Yellow Kudra. Mount Allen  
is “opnieuw een juweeltje van een video” (Trial & Error Recordings)  
met daarin een tweede deel van de moderne dans van Johannes Ender in  
een pakhuis in Beieren. Momenteel staat het op de playlist van MTV2.

Drift, 3:30 Duitsland/Groot-Brittannië 2007
Drift is een experimentele korte film gemaakt in samenwerking met  
componist Mark Bowden. Drift laat het lichaam als metaforisch  
landschap zien. Mysterieus en af en toe te dichtbij komend, is deze  
film in staat het dagelijkse bekende te transformeren in iets  
poëtisch en mysterieus. De sfeer staat centraal in dit werk. Eén deel  
horror film en één deel natuur studie staan garant voor een boeiende  
mix.

De abstracte politieke films van Max Hattler (1976 Ulm/Duitsland)  
hebben meerdere prijzen gewonnen, waaronder de LUX Award voor Beste  
Experimentele Film. Dazed and Confused omschreven Max als één van “de  
drie meest intrigerende jonge animators van de wereld”, samen met PES  
en Model Robot. In juli 2007 ontving hij samen met de Duitse animator  
Robert Seidel de DEFA Award voor de co-regie van een korte  
experimentele film. Zijn werk word wereldwijd vertoond op film  
festivals en tentoonstellingen, waaronder Annecy, Clermont-Ferrand,  
Media Art Festival, Resfest en Imagina Awards.

Art Festival is called Spotlight. Max Hattler has his first solo  
exhibition ever.

Spotlight Max Hattler - Landscape of human existence

Landscape of human existence presents two Dutch premieres. Interested  
in the space between abstraction and figuration, where storytelling  
is freed from the constraints of traditional narrative. Hattlers work  
contemplates microcosms, moments, atmospheres; close-ups as  
reflections on the big picture. While his films tend to be without  
dialogue, they explore the relationship between sound, music and the  
moving image. Part of a young international generation of filmmakers  
Hattlers ideas transform into individual dynamic masterpieces.

Mount Allen, 3:40 Germany/UK 2007

Mount Allen, a music video for avant-garde rockers Economy Wolf. This  
second collaboration between Max Hattler and Economy Wolf, follows  
the acclaimed Theme For Yellow Kudra. Mount Allen is “yet another gem  
of a video” (Trial & Error Recordings) and features a second  
instalment of the contemporary dance of Johannes Ender in a warehouse  
in Bavaria. It is currently play-listed on MTV2.

Drift, 3:30 Germany/UK 2007

Drift is an experimental short film made in collaboration with new  
music composer Mark Bowden. Drift shows the body as a metaphorical  
landscape. Eerie and sometimes too close for comfort the film manages  
to transform the familiar and mundane into something poetic and  
mysterious. The mood is at the heart of this piece. One part horror  
film and one part nature study certainly makes for a compelling mix.

Biography
Max Hattler (1976 Ulm/Germany) abstract political short film  
Collision has won several prizes including the LUX Award for Best  
Experimental Film, and Dazed and Confused described Max as one of  
“three of the world’s most exciting young animators”, next to PES and  
Model Robot. In July 2007 he received the DEFA Award with German  
animator Robert Seidel to co-direct an experimental short film. Max  
Hattler signed to Bermuda Shorts as a director. His work is shown at  
film festivals and exhibitions worldwide, including Annecy, Clermont- 
Ferrand, Media Art Festival, Resfest and Imagina Awards.
